Shows a (gpx) route and a current position, but doesn't do turn-by-turn. The upside to this app is the top-quality mapping (certainly of the UK/Europe - in the UK you can view electronic versions of the OS maps, similar France and IGN), the downside is the cost (these maps are "official" and therefore copyrighted).
Basically, it's a zip file with an internal folder structure to house images. There's also an XML file involved which maps the images to the project space. I collaborated on an ArcExplorer plugin to do the heavy for this. I realize you're on a Mac and this isn't really helpful, but you can browse the source to see what I'm doing.

In the browser version of Strava, you can import a GPX file as a made activity. Navigation is not possible this way. In the detailed strava app review you can see how the GPX import works this way.
